I have this same music box. It came to the US with my great-grandparents in the early years of the 20th century. It was made in approximately 1886, as best we can tell. We have a lot of older discs for it, with some newer (like Music of the Night, from Phantom of the Opera) from the Porter Music box folks. Yours sounds as beautiful as mine does! I think you need to lock the hinge that holds the lid up . If you don't the lid will come craSHING DOWN on the box . Trust me I know My stupid Husband did not do that on my porter music box . and while he was cranking the crank the lid came down on his Rolex and chipping the lid on the corner . It has been repaired . But my husband is never allowed to touch it because he is STUPID . And he didn't pay for my music box I DID .My husband is a CHEAP penny pinching little bitch when it comes to me . MRS. M
